Today, I had a great experience in the Bethel AME Church in Palatka. This is one of Florida’s oldest AME Churches and is Pastored by one of God’s true preachers. His message today on giving as Abel in the Bible gave was remarkably timely and uplifting. I want to thank Pastor McGriff and his entire church family for warmly welcoming us to worship with them this morning.

I was given the opportunity to introduce Debra and myself and to take a moment to speak. I could have made it into a political speech, but instead, decided that this was neither the time nor the place. I simply asked for prayer and suggestions from those attending. I need those prayers and more importantly, discovered one truth I have always believed.

Color of one’s skin doesn’t exempt you from trials and tribulations. Color of one’s skin doesn’t make you anyone not worthy of God’s blessings. What does matter is the character of the person and the desire to help and to bring about the gift of uplifting of people-a gift we were given by His salvation and grace. I met great people of character and was warmly welcomed by all, no matter my political leanings and color of skin not seeming to matter.

A couple came forth this morning in need of help, compassion, and the basic necessities of life. He was blind and she was most likely weary from worry about the next meal, the next warm place to sleep, and the constant attention her husband needed. I was moved by the outreach of this Church community and their outpouring of understanding and desire to help. This is the America I grew up in where people helped one another. This is the America we are missing and need to return to. It wasn’t about government programs or assistance, but was about real Americans who cared about other real Americans.

We were given another Commandment- to love one another. Let us always be mindful of that in our daily lives. Let us always strive to do what that Commandment says and we end all classes, all conflict, and all racial divide.

Thank You Pastor McGriff for sharing, caring, and reminding me once again, that in God’s eyes, we are all his Children and we are to love and praise Him for all things in this world we are given the privilege to simply use for a short while.

This Monday, May the 17th, Rep. Corrine Brown is going to be holding her “Job Fair to Make Corrine Brown Look Good” event in Jacksonville.

Little does Rep. Brown understand is that there are no jobs to be found and what few there are, are low paying, part-time, and not sustainable for economic growth in this District.

In today’s Jacksonville Times-Union feature section, the article explains the situation completely from the words of the writer:

Jocelyn Gaffney, 29, has an engineering degree and an MBA, but lives with her mother and tutors on the side, because she can’t even get a job as a cashier at a grocery.

Cindy Glass, with a master’s degree and 22 years of teaching experience, works in a coffee shop for minimum wage and is grateful for that.

And Curran, who once made about $160,000 at Blue Cross, has a temporary job with the Census. But he recently passed his certification test to be an elementary school teacher – if he can find a job in the schools.

So let’s examine just how out of touch Rep. Brown is with a look at her most recently introduced Bills in Congress:

  1. Introduced: H.R. 5287: To amend the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act to permanently prohibit the conduct of offshore drilling on the outer Continental Shelf of the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico.
  2. Introduced: H.R. 5266: To extend the final report deadline and otherwise reauthorize the National Commission on Children and Disasters.
  3. Passed House: H.Res. 1301: Supporting the goals and ideals of National Train Day.

The first bill will permanently kill all prospects of Florida ever developing any industry that creates top-paying, permanent jobs that don’t depend on what has been historically, Florida’s largest employment areas- Tourism and Agriculture and more recently, Construction.

The second Bill simply does nothing to create jobs, but DOES recognize that government can do a far better job in meeting the needs of children of a disaster than can the PARENTS of those children. This is NOTHING more than “nanny-state”, big government interfering with the roles of parents once again.

The third bill, that actually passed, is more of Rep. Brown’s massive government subsidized (at taxpayers expense) statement that rail is the way to go!! Yet, she FAILS to mention that Amtrak, Tri Rail, and the “new” Sun Rail projects are nothing but TAXPAYER provided rail systems that have failed to meet ridership or profitability objectives since their inception. America would have PRIVATE SECTOR rail service for passengers if it was in demand, profitable, and meeting the transportation needs of this nation. It doesn’t and never will. The simple reason is that there in only ONE “corridor” that can meet the population requirements to have “High Speed Rail” at even a break-even point and that is in the N.E. corridor from New York to Washington, D.C. We, the taxpayers of this nation have provided far too long for far too many FAILURES of government and passenger rail is but ONE example from countless others.

Mike offers REAL solutions to bringing permanent and high paying jobs to this District;

  1. Reform our tax system and pass the FairTax. Elimination of all income taxes and payroll taxes will create a business climate that promotes investment in American initiatives. Eliminating the Corporate income taxes will make the U.S. prime targets for relocation for those industries that left our shores for more tax favorable countries. Congress can no longer manipulate the tax code to pick and choose the “winners and losers” for campaign donations for re-election bids made by the Special Interest groups and Lobbyists.
  2. Expansion of “Small business incubators” with a Regional approach instead of isolating it in one building as the “Beaver Street Incubator” has done in Jacksonville. Create “Enterprise Zones” throughout this District to attract small businesses, manufacturing, and transportation and logistics companies. Far too many buildings sit empty in this District and incorporating them into this model will work to bring stable and top paying jobs. Far too many people would start their OWN Small Business given the opportunity to do so and have their chances of success multiplied.
  3. Make education a priority and end the failure of our school system by requiring real teacher accountability and ending tenure. Putting education back in the hands of local communities will end the “Federal Mandates” that have left over 40% of all students entering High School in this District NEVER graduating. Allow parents to place their children in schools by promoting success in education and allowing the funding of that education to follow the STUDENT, not the failed school. This would allow parents to place their children in Private, Parochial, or Charter schools that succeed in graduation rates and provide an education that allows our children to have a real future of opportunity.

Mike believes that the role of government is providing the TOOLS for the individual to succeed, not provide “success” by government handouts, bailouts, or funding. Big government failures are easy to spot and the RESULTS of these “programs” have left this District in economic shambles. Leadership and bold ideas are needed to bring real change to this District. Rep. Brown only has offered “lip service” to this District and has failed her constituents, her community, and those who thought “hope and change” meant real opportunity.

You can be a part of bringing real, bold, Conservative leadership to this District by supporting Mike Yost for Congress. It is time to “Stamp out Brown” once and for all.

Arizona has come under assault by countless numbers of illegal immigrants because of one simple reason- the Federal government has refused to enforce the laws already on the books. Much of the area south on Interstate 10 is under attack including Tucson by illegals trafficking in narcotics and marijuana. Murders are at an all time high and attacks on law enforcement officers is commonplace throughout the region.

Arizona shares a common southern border with Mexico and the area south of there is a hotbed of gangs, thugs, and all out warfare of those attempting to control the illegal entrance routes into the U.S. The border fence is almost non-existent along that border and construction has been halted due to numerous reasons, including lack of funding by Congress to complete the mission originally started under President Bush.

Politically, the illegals in the country are a hotbed of dispute as to what to do with them. Democrats are going to tackle the issue, but with ONE goal in mind- increasing their voting block by nearly 20 million people. Amnesty is what they are going to propose for these illegals and Republican opposition is no doubt going to happen. Which ever “Party” can deliver the best bill for allowing illegals to stay in this nation will be the ones who has the most to gain in terms of voters.

Either way, the American people are sick of the “politics” of what to do with illegals and want to see simple enforcement of the laws before they “trust” the politicos with an “amnesty bill” for illegals already here.

Americans are not stupid either. Most of the illegals here are low-wage, semi to unskilled labor, and offer little in terms of “tax paying” capability. It is estimated that as a group, granting amnesty would only add considerably in Federal spending for already out of control entitlement programs. Many are receiving several billion Federal dollars already with the “anchor baby” rules we have had wrongly interpreted by activist courts. Programs like Medicaid, WIC, SCHIPS, and TANF are already filled with illegals at taxpayer expense. Who knows the countless dollars being spent in education and housing for illegals.

As was shown in 2007, Americans have no taste for an amnesty program or a “path to citizenship” for illegal aliens. The outcries of “fairness” toward illegals is sickening to many as well. America is NOT a nation of “fairness”, but one of a Rule of Law. The law is plain- if you are here illegally, you have broken the law. It doesn’t matter than you have children born here, family here, a job here, or for whatever reason you are here- YOU broke the law by coming into this nation without following the proper channels to get here.

The solution is without question, a very simple one and the type of “Immigration Reform” the American people will accept is as follows:

  • Enforce existing laws regarding immigration. If you are here illegally, you are deported- PERIOD. That is what the law calls for now, so enforce it. (This is what Arizona seeks to do within their State borders)
  • Complete the wall on our southern border. Unless the influx of illegals is halted at every point, the problem is only going to be harder to solve.
  • Enforce the laws for employers who knowingly and willingly hire illegals. E-verify MUST be used before ANY person is hired to determine their legal status for employment. Increase the penalties for any employer who fails to use E-verify before hiring anyone.
  • Increase penalties for any person who knowingly provides forged paperwork to anyone entering this country illegally. Increase penalties for anyone in possession of such documents.
  • Eliminate the “anchor baby” provisions with laws requiring the parents to be legal U.S. citizens before their children born here can automatically be citizens. Redefine the term “natural born citizen” to mean a child in which BOTH parents are American citizens.
  • Eliminate all expenditures of Federal money to any person who is NOT a U.S. citizen on any program funded partially or totally by taxpayers dollars.
  • Define that illegals have no “rights” under the U.S. Constitution, other than the basic human right of being treated humanely when caught, access to the courts only for deportation or criminal proceedings, and that only United States citizens are allowed full protection of the law under the Constitution of our country.
  • Streamline the process for those here LEGALLY to obtain American citizenship.
  • Create new tracking methods and reporting requirements for those here on Visa’s or other entry documents that were obtained legally. Those who overstay their Visa’s will be deported and no longer be permitted to re-enter this country ever.
  • Define English as the official language of the United States and that any person wishing to obtain citizenship be required to learn English.

These are Immigration Reforms ALL Americans can accept and wish that Congress would take a strong stand to ensure passage. LEGAL immigration is the backbone of our nation and has been for hundreds of years. We are all, basically, the result of immigration and to discount our rights as citizens and to confer those rights to someone that did not follow proper channels to get here is unacceptable to us.

It is time to elect those who will not engage in the POLITICAL motivations on Immigration Reform, but will do as the people of this nation desire. It is time to elect Mike Yost- the only candidate who will be “Taking YOUR Voice to D.C.”
