The recent release of the unemployment numbers indicate a very unsettling trend in our nations future for an economic recovery. In spite of the numbers showing a .2% decline in unemployment, the real disturbing numbers were the number of permanent jobs lost that are never to be recovered and the number of people who have simply given up on ever finding work.

There reasons for such miserable numbers recently cited by the L.A. Times include the following:

  • Slump in retail sales and no plans for any expansion. Unemployed people simply can’t purchase things.
  • Uncertainty on tax increases when the Bush tax cuts expire, increased government regulations on the financial sector, and uncertainty on energy costs as the Cap and Trade bill looms in Congress.
  • Inability to obtain capital from previously available sources as well as uncertainty in the effect of the Financial Regulations being placed on our Banks and lenders.

Small business accounts for more than 70% of our workforce. In spite of incentives for new start up businesses, the growth rate among this group is near zero. Fewer and fewer people are willing to overcome the mountains of regulations, unwillingness to invest capital during uncertainty in the global economy, and uncertainty in taxation due to mounting government deficits. Add to the mix, the costs associated with the new Obamacare are directly impacting the bottom line of every small business and few are willing to venture into a new startup with requirements to provide healthcare benefits from day one, face the prospects of fines if they don’t, and have needed capital to overcome that 3 year window of uncertainty in which over 70% of the failures occur.

Let’s also add to the mix the increases in government jobs at every level of local, state, and Federal government. Those are additional taxes needed to pay the salaries and benefits of newly hired government employees. At the time when government deficits on every level are climbing due to losses of previously stable tax revenue, government still insists on creating jobs with the Stimulus dollars with “use it of lose it” rules. Instead of using those dollars to temporarily fund the deficits, new government jobs are created and more debt is incurred.

These state and local governments are also facing budget shortfalls that has resulted in the loss of many teachers, policemen, and firefighters. Yet, due to the rules of the Stimulus money, few of those funds are being used to save those jobs. The talk of tax increases to maintain these lost jobs are receiving push back from those citizens who understand they are being squeezed so much now in taxes, that there is nothing left to pay higher taxes with. Countless small businesses too, are feeling the burden of increased local government taxation needed to keep their budgets balanced.

We are in a death spiral of government debt, excessive regulation, and more mandates from the Federal government. Washington has failed to “get it”. The solutions are simple and lead down one path alone and Mike believes that until that uncertainty is removed, we will not see our economy recover. His plan is simple:

  • Enact the FairTax. Removing the burden of Income taxes puts more money in peoples pocket and allows them to have the needed money to make buying decisions, not wishful thinking. It will bring over $13 TRILLION in private investment dollars into our economy and allow free market principles to work when there are no tax implications from those investments. This alone will begin the job creation needed to spur economic growth.
  • Cut the deficits in half this year. Until our government can learn to live within it’s means and end the borrowing just to pay for basic government needs, taxes will escalate and those burdens are being passed through “generational theft” to our heirs.
  • End any additional Stimulus and TARP spending. These programs have failed in their intent and are simply adding to the debt of this nation.
  • Repeal Obamacare and end the uncertainty of higher taxes to our small businesses. The promises of lower health care costs are false promises and already escalating premiums, higher costs, and loss of coverages are occurring. The $1.3 TRILLION dollar price tag again, adds to the debt of this country and we can ill afford to be faced with increased taxes to pay for it.
  • Begin serious reforms of our entitlement programs. We are faced with over $106 TRILLION in unfunded liability(DEBT) over the next 20 years in these programs. Since they are NOT part of the Government budget- that spending is on automatic pilot- we are facing financial collapse in paying for these programs.

We as a nation must return to the principles and foundation of our Founders of smaller government, regulations that do not impede business but PROMOTES it, and low taxes to fund a smaller and less intrusive government. It is time to head the warning of Jefferson:

A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take away everything you have.

In a moment of “I told you so”, the reality of ObamaCare is already showing the true fallout from this legislation:

More American Jobs Lost.

Needless to say, Rep. Corrine Brown’s claim of “People need health care” was nothing more than cover for the sham and scam this legislation truly is. AT&T, Caterpillar, John Deere, and countless others are announcing millions/billions of dollars of new taxes and the prospect of countless millions of workers losing their jobs over the need to trim back payrolls to avoid the taxes and reduce the losses under ObamaCare. Even the Medical Equipment manufacturers are looking to take their factories overseas and the Chinese will once again be the victors of ObamaCare as more Americans lose their jobs.

So where is the Health Care Rep. Brown promised? It is non-existent as most things Rep. Brown has promised to the people of this District. Those benefits of this bill have a four year wait to even begin to happen. The taxes and fees begin immediately.

But the simple fact is, if you have no job and no prospects for a job, health care is the farthest thing from ones mind. To most people, keeping a roof over their heads, food on the table, and the utilities turned on have far more importance when you are no longer employed.

The other day, I met a man who had been out of work for nearly 18 months as a construction worker. He would spend the early morning waiting at the day-labor pool hoping for a job to come along that needed his particular talent. That day, it didn’t happen so he visited the local Plasma Center to donate plasma, receive a small sum of cash that he was using to eat with. His day consisted of trying to find work, having enough money to most likely eat his only meal (breakfast, because it is the cheapest meal of the day), and to sleep in his truck at night. He was angry and rightfully so. He only wanted a JOB. The rest he could handle once the JOB was in place. THAT is the American Spirit Rep. Brown doesn’t understand.

To Rep. Brown, this is just too bad. No, she would rather tell us how we need health care and NOT spend time understanding the needs of the people who live and raise their families in the District. I doubt health care has much meaning to this unemployed construction worker, but having a full time job that allows him to put a roof over his head and food in his stomach would mean far more that a health insurance policy.

My question for Rep. Corrine Brown is simple- Will the IRS agents visit him simply because he didn’t purchase health care and he is forced to pay the fines?

I think Rep. Brown is so out of touch it really doesn’t matter to her.  She has promised the people of this District the MOON, and can’t even deliver a MOON PIE.

It is time the people of this District have real Representation that understands the needs of this District and the people who live here. I bring the plan to create the JOBS people really want, OPPORTUNITY people want their children and grandchildren to have, and the FREEDOM from an over-reaching government that is destroying the very basic foundation of America.

It is time for Liberty and Freedom to work once again as our Founders envisioned and end this corrupt, Big Money Special Interest influence on Washington to give our nation back to WE THE PEOPLE with common sense, Conservative government.

In 2008 the under 30 group of young people placed their faith in the “Hope and Change” message. Overwhelmingly they came out, voted and over 60% cast votes for Barrack Obama.

Now, there is going to be a very high price to pay for that effort. With the passage of Obama/PelosiCare, the choices of America’s youth just disappeared. No longer are they going to be able to decide if a cellphone is more important than health care. No longer will that new I-pod be something on the list of future purchases. No longer will that new house be in the near future, but something that is a distant dream you “might” get when you hit 40 or 50.

The cost of the government health care plan just passed by the House is enormous. Our young adults will be taxed, fined, and even jailed to the point where the reality of what just happened because of their votes in 2008 will be like a ton of bricks they carry for the rest of their life. Those who seek to better their future with college, start their own business, or even finding a decent paying job will find the market non-existent for their talents and little opportunity for attaining their youthful dreams. The tax burdens alone for government health care is going to be frightening.

Sadly, the utopia they envisioned from a packaging of “Hope and Change” will be revealed in their reduced paychecks, the $8 an hour jobs, and the delay of buying their own home. Hanging prison time over their heads will only force them into submission to the government. I doubt they are going to like or accept the reality that utopia is only a thought of sugar plums dancing in ones head.

The ones who are going to pay the most will be those who many Democrats refer to as America’s “Disadvantaged Youth”. When faced with High School graduation, little chance of getting a college degree, and being forced to accept menial jobs that seldom pay the bills, these added taxes and fines because they have no health insurance coverages will strike a blow so deep that “disadvantaged” is going to mean another layer of poverty. That is a reality few are envisioning now as they are going to be forced to pay for the health care needs of our aging population over the next 20 years. To a young person, that seems like an eternity, but the facts are that the “boomers” are going to be 65 very soon and the bulk of those will be entering at the time when their health care needs are at their greatest and the youth looked to as the payment vehicle. This layer of our youth will be enslaved to the “system” and with far worse implications than you have been led to believe.

Those young people who do manage to achieve will be the ones footing the entire bill in 5-10 years. Want to make over $250,000 a year? You will be taxed to the point where “Hope and Change” will mean “I hope I have a little change left” after the paycheck arrives.  That is IF you are one of the lucky ones who actually finds a decent paying job or takes the ever increasingly risky chance of starting your own small business.

There is a high price to pay for personal “security”. It comes in the form of higher taxes, fewer opportunities, and a reduced standard of living for all people. Any person who wants government to place a floor under their feet will find a ceiling over their head. As the floor expands, the ceiling gets lower. Our youth are being asked to support that ever growing ceiling as well and that load will all too soon collapse under it’s own weight.

Our nation’s youth will awaken from their sleep. Their desire for a better America will come from their realization that to trade Liberty for security means you deserve neither as was spoken by Benjamin Franklin centuries ago. The admonitions of our Founders applies just as aptly today as it did then. I encourage our young adults to become enlightened and aware of what “Hope and Change” really means. After all, it only took repackaging utopia to fool you once.

Will it fool you once again?

Mike believes that a smaller, less intrusive government will allow our young people to have the same opportunities Americans once enjoyed. He believes that the future of our nation lies in our young people and that the burdens of government shouldn’t be shackled to their energy and desire for advancement. Mike wants to see our young people become the next generation of successful, ambitious, and the greatest creators of prosperity for America, not the ones paying for the waste and growth of government. Support Mike in his efforts to win the 3rd Congressional District and help bring reality to his vision of the America that is still the greatest nation in the world.
